Red Sox 1986 Opening Day

Posted 5 April 2008, 16:27

My first YouTube upload. I ran across this on a VHS tape recently in my basement and figured it was worth sharing. The Red Sox played the Detroit Tigers in the first game of the 1986 MLB season. Jack Morris pitching for Tigers and Dwight Evans leading off for the Red Sox. Announcing are Ned Martin and Bob Montgomery.

Posted 14 October 2007, 20:20

I finally got TextPattern installed on The Reducers web site. So, the home page now is a blog. Eventually the entire site will be managed by TextPattern.

Web Site Maintenance

Posted 16 September 2007, 19:13

I spent this weekend updating the web apps that I run on my web sites. That’s always fun.

  • Updated my TextPattern install on this web site to v4.0.5. I also splurged on a copy of MarsEdit to manage my blog postings. If it works well with this blog I’ll be adding blogs to some of my other sites and using it there as well.
  • Updated MediaWiki to v1.11.0 on New London Rocks! and McD’s Huskies Hoops.
  • Updated the phpBB forum software to v3.0RC5 on New London Rocks! Apparently it has been a while since I checked out the forums because since February it has become loaded with spam. Spent an hour deleting all of it and installing a mod so that I could do mass deletion of bogus user accounts, and changing settings to require admin activation of new accounts.
  • Updated OpenAds to v2.3.39 beta on New London Rocks! That’s the app the handles the banner ads on the site. Ran into a problem with this one so I had to roll back to the previous version until I have time to figure out the problem.
  • Updated my genealogy site to v6.1.2 of TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding). I also uploaded a complete new GEDCOM file with all my latest info.
  • I was going to update the Gallery app that runs the photo gallery on The Reducers web site but I want to install Gallery2 and I need to read some more about how to upgrade from Gallery1 before I attempt the upgrade.

I need to add a recurring event every 3 months to remind myself to check for updates for all of these apps on a regular basis.

More EarthWindows Updates

I did another update for my cousin Joe’s web site update, scanning and posting about 20 more new photos for him. Check it out if you like nature photography. If you’ve got any plans to visit Mt. Rainier some day you should pick up a copy of his book while you are there.

Let's Go Red!

John Dreimiller

My cousin’s son John is a freshman at RPI and is a pitcher on their baseball team (he also swings a good bat). I was pleasantly surprised today to discover that his RPI bio page mentions my father (Tom) and his younger brother (Joe). My father was a pitcher and, from what I understand, he still holds some of the pitching records at Ticonderoga High School, which is the same HS that John attended. Joe was my father’s catcher. Technically they are John’s great-uncles, not his uncles as his bio page states. John’s grandfather was Tom and Joe’s older brother. Nice to see the old timers getting their props.

My father went head-to-head against Johnny Podres from Mineville High School more than once and beat him when they were seniors (1951) with pro scouts in the stands there to check out Podres, who would soon be drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and would be named the MVP of the 1955 World Series.

RPI’s baseball season gets underway March 3rd with a double-header in Florida as part of the RussMatt College Spring Break Invitationals. They are ranked #23 in the NCAA Div. III pre-seaosn poll. I’ve got their May 5th game at Vassr marked on my calendar. If the weather’s nice and I don’t have anything urgent going on I may take a drive up to Poughkeepsie to catch that game and catch up with a high school buddy of mine who is the men’s basketball head coach at Vassar.
